A Dream Realized: Rosa Hudson Becomes a Homeowner
In May, we recognized Ms. Rosa Hudson as our Resident of the Month. This month, we’re thrilled to celebrate an even bigger milestone: Rosa has officially graduated from the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program, received her escrow check, and achieved her lifelong dream of becoming a homeowner.
While enrolled in the FSS Program, Rosa worked closely with RRHA’s Director of Redevelopment and Revitalization, Frederick Gusler, to qualify for RRHA’s Homeownership Program. After months of dedication, perseverance, and navigating the homebuying process, Rosa officially closed on her new home on June 17.
Helping low- to moderate-income families achieve homeownership is one of RRHA’s core goals. Through its Homeownership Program, RRHA assists eligible first-time homebuyers—including current and former public housing residents, Housing Choice Voucher participants, and other qualifying families—in making homeownership more affordable.
Before Rosa moved in, RRHA fully renovated the home by replacing the roof, furnace, flooring, and appliances, repairing the kitchen cabinets, and completing several exterior improvements, including a new driveway, fence repairs, and the removal of a damaged tree and shed. To make the home truly her own, Rosa selected the flooring, paint colors, and light fixtures.
RRHA covered the cost of all renovations and recorded two forgivable notes that become fully forgiven after ten years, helping make the purchase affordable for Rosa and her husband, Willie. Rosa also worked with Allison Wolf at Freedom First, who secured the mortgage and helped the couple receive $17,500 in down payment assistance through the Federal Home Loan Bank’s first-time homebuyer program.
Congratulations to Rosa and Willie on this incredible accomplishment! Their journey is a wonderful example of what can be achieved through determination, partnership, and the opportunities available through RRHA.
