2025 Melody Stovall Scholarship

The City of Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA) is pleased to announce its annual Melody Stovall Scholarship Competition for 2025. This scholarship will be granted based on academic achievement and community engagement. Graduating seniors, returning college students, and adult learners are encouraged to apply!  

The scholarship will be awarded in amounts up to $1,000 and you must be accepted, or have an acceptance pending, to an accredited college, university or an accredited business school to be considered. Selection will be based upon grades, community service, strength of career goals, articulation, and need. Remember, neatness counts. If your application is incomplete or illegible, it will not be considered.

RRHA has offered educational scholarships to residents since 1983. Scholarship applications become available annually in January and can be accessed at public housing development offices, the HCV office, or on the RRHA website.

The firm deadline for submission of completed applications is Monday, May 5, 2025, at 5:00 PM.

Instructions for High School Seniors Submitting Applications:

  1. Complete and sign the application Please type your responses.
  2. The following MUST be submitted with the Incomplete applications will not be considered.

    • A copy of high school transcripts listing Grade Point Average (GPA) and Class(Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA to be considered).

    • Two letters supporting the character, achievements and potential for education and career advancement of the applicant. One letter MUST be from a school official (principal, counselor, teacher, etc.). The other letter may be from a minister, coach, employer, or any person with significant knowledge of the applicant.RRHA staff members are not eligible to provide letters of reference.

  1. Complete and sign the application Please type your responses.

**IMPORTANT INFORMATION**

  • Each applicant’s household must be a resident in good standing of public housing or Section 8 housing and must have maintained their residence for six months prior to the application deadline of Monday, May 5, 2025.

  • Funds may be utilized as early as the fall semester of 2025.

  • Scholarship recipients must be FULL-TIME students who are pursuing a degree and have been accepted to or are attending an accredited college, university, or an accredited business school.

  • Scholarship money will be sent directly from the City of Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority to the eligible uses of funds include: tuition, books, supplies, fees, and study aids.
