ROANOKE, VA., OCTOBER 16TH, 2024 – On Friday, October 18th at 10:45 a.m., the City of Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA) and Virginia Western Community College (VWCC) proudly celebrated the graduation of the inaugural class from their newly launched Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) training program at the EnVision Center. Launched in September, the six-week course is designed to equip participants of the Northwest Roanoke community with the essential skills and certification necessary to pursue careers in medical office administration.
“This partnership is crucial because it provides the students, especially the RHHA residents, with the opportunity to learn in a familiar and trusted environment, without the pressures of a traditional college setting”, said Brittany, VWCC’s Workforce Solutions Coordinator. “By bringing education directly to the community, this collaboration makes it easier for residents to access the tools they need to succeed”, she added.
The course concluded on October 18th, with students taking their certification exams onsite. Those who passed the test were officially certified as Medical Administrative Assistants allowing them to transition seamlessly into the workforce. This marks the first time RRHA has partnered with Virginia Western to offer a certification program at the EnVision Center, and it has already generated strong interest. With a waitlist of eager students, VWCC plans to offer the program again in the spring semester.
Brittany expressed excitement about the initiative, emphasizing that the program shows students that people care about their success and believe in their potential.
