Eddy Green Recognized as RRHA’s April Resident of the Month

RRHA celebrated Eddy Green as the April Resident of the Month for his dedication and accomplishments through his participation in the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program.

Eddy enrolled in the FSS Program, managed by RRHA and available to all public housing residents, nearly three years ago. After meeting with Heather Brush, his FSS Coordinator at the Roanoke EnVision Center, Eddy shared one of his goals: finding a part-time job in food service.

With that goal in mind, Eddy began volunteering at the Salem baseball stadium, where he later learned about an open kitchen position at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. With encouragement and support from his case manager, he applied for the position and was hired.

Today, Eddy has been working there for some time and truly enjoys his job. The opportunity has allowed him to build valuable kitchen and food preparation skills while doing work he finds meaningful.

Eddy has also overcome significant health challenges and has found a strong sense of purpose through serving and connecting with the veterans he meets at the VAMC. Despite these obstacles, he has remained dedicated to achieving his goals. He has also steadily grown his FSS escrow account, which he plans to use to invest in his future upon graduation from the program.

Our Resident Services staff at RRHA were proud to celebrate Eddy’s hard work and accomplishments this month alongside his father, Ed (pictured left). Also pictured is Heather Brush, Eddy’s FSS Coordinator (center), with Eddy Green (right).
