Nicole Williams: An Example of Resilience and Determination in the Community

Nicole Williams is one of our residents who exemplifies the spirit of determination and resourcefulness and has been recognized as the Resident of the Quarter. Upon her arrival in Roanoke, Nicole sought support from the RRHA’s staff and enrolled in the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program at the EnVision Center. Through this program, she has discovered a variety of opportunities to enhance her life and has diligently utilized all the resources available to her.

The FSS Program has served as her guiding light, providing personalized guidance and encouragement. Through the FSS Program, Nicole has gained financial literacy skills and received emotional support. She has navigated life’s twists and turns with resilience, making the FSS Program her trusted companion. Nicole’s commitment to self-improvement and unwavering determination make her a shining example for others in the community.

Nicole’s impact expands beyond her personal growth. She made history by becoming the first person in the Roanoke Valley to benefit from the Ways to Work Program provided by the HumanKind Economic Resource Center. This program helped Nicole afford a reliable vehicle in only six weeks, ensuring that she can commute to work and continue spending quality time with her beloved grandchildren. As Nicole continues on her journey, she sets her sights on another milestone: becoming a homeowner. Her determination and community support will undoubtedly lead her toward this next goal. Nicole’s story inspires us all, showing that with resilience and empowerment, dreams become reality.
